Elks slate ‘Hoop Shoot’ for Nov. 29

Elks Hoop ShootLocal competition for the annual Elks “Hoop Shoot,” the national free throw shooting contest for youngsters ages 8 thru 13, will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Greene County middle school gym. Registration and practice begins at 9 am with competition beginning at 10 am.

Greene County and Glidden-Ralston youngsters have been competing in their phys ed classes to send top shooters to the local competition. Those youngsters from Paton-Churdan and other area schools who did not compete at school are welcome to participate. Every boy and girl must bring a copy of their birth certificate.

More than 3 million youngsters throughout the country entered last year’s competition. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. Girls and 8-9 year old boys use the girls competition ball. Boys 10-13 use the boys competition ball. The boy and girl in each age group(8-9, 10-11, and 12-13) with the best scores advance to the district contest Jan. 17 at Storm Lake.

Jefferson Elks lodge #2306 sponsors the Elks Hoop Shoot locally as one of its youth programs.
